This is the sharp southern summit of the Garibaldi massif. It is easily visible from highway 99 in Squamish, where it dominates the skyline. Although it is often referred to as Diamond Head, the name officially belongs to a minor sub-peak 2km south, unofficially known as the Little Diamond Head.
The rock is volcanic and quite rotten, and thus Atwell is generally climbed only in the Winter and the Spring.
